VICTORIAN GILT BRONZE & OPALINE GLASS PENDANT LANTERN BY PERRY & CO
DESCRIPTION
A superb Victorian hanging pendant lantern by renowned 19th century makers Perry & Co. The beautifully made lantern has a cast gilt bronze crown which features acanthus leaves, scrolls and scroll leaf design, floral rosettes and ovolo moulding. The collar has a finely pierced floral design which is further highlighted once illuminated. The ovoid shaped opaline glass is encased by bronze gilt lions heads carrying rings in their mouths, bell flowers and acanthus leaves.
The reverse of the castings are stamped PERRY several times along with serial numbers.
The light hangs on an adjustable 30 chain, and comes with a ceiling rose.
The bronze gilt retains its original finish and there are no chips to the glass. The lantern has been rewired and is in working order.

William Perry established his business in 1817 at 72 New Bond Street, London. Previously, he had worked with William Parker from 1803, who manufactured lighting for royalty worldwide. Parker & Perry were commissioned for a 56 light chandelier for the Crimson Drawing Room in Carlton House.
In 1822, William Perry was joined by his nephew, and the company became known as Perry & Co from 1833. They became one of the best and most successful lighting manufacturers of the 19th century, supplying to the Royal palaces and residents.
Perry supplied nine chandeliers to the Music Room of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, for the Prince Regent. Four of these chandeliers were moved to Buckingham Palace, where they remain today.
