FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE ANTIQUE DISPLAY CABINET ATTRIBUTED TO PAUL SORMANI

DESCRIPTION

A magnificent quality French mahogany antique vitrine display cabinet in the Louis XVI style with bowed ends, original mirror back and glass shelves with a drawer to the front.


The cabinet has an open display base and is stood on turned tapering fluted and stop reeded legs and is fitted with the finest quality bronze gilt mounts and mouldings throughout. The top section of the cabinet  is fitted with an open pierced bronze gilt gallery.

The cabinet has an inset coloured original marble on the top and lower shelf  and retains its original locks which are in full working order with a key.

Paul Sormani was born in 1817 in Venice and moved to Paris in the mid 19th century. Sormani won many awards for his magnificent cabinet making works of art and was renowned for his high level of excellence. He became popular with aristocracy and produced furniture in the Louis XIV, XV and XVI styles.  He worked up until his death in 1877.
