FRENCH 19TH CENTURY LOUIS XVI STYLE ESCRITOIRE CABINET

DESCRIPTION

A late 19th century French escritoire cabinet of superb quality in the Louis XVI style. The drawer fronts have a walnut centre, with tulip wood crossbanding and an intricate abalone shell and brass inlay design. There is purpleheart string inlay with ebonised frame, and the drawers are finished with gilt bronze mouldings.

The cabinet is flanked with gilt bronze mounts and laurel leaf moulding to the top which has an inset white marble. The sides have walnut veneer with brass string inlay and ebonised frame, and the cabinet stands on toupie shaped feet.

 

The interior of the escritoire is veneered in birds eye maple and the drawers are veneered in thuya wood and finished with brass knobs . The leather writing surface has a gilt design to its border.

The drawer linings are constructed of oak and they all have their original working locks which come with a key.
