FRENCH BRONZE GILT EMPIRE STYLE ANTIQUE MANTEL CLOCK BY CAILLY AINE

DESCRIPTION

A magnificent French bronze gilt Romanesque Empire style mantel clock adorned by the goddess Diana wearing a draped gown holding a quiver under her arm and a putti playing a lyre with a quiver by its feet. To one side of the clock is the goddess Salacia depicted blowing two horns and two cherubs holding a floral leaf garland feature on the plinth base which stands on scrolling feet.

The clock has a decorative dial with scroll leaf motifs and centre, Roman numerals and a French eight day silk suspension movement which strikes the hours and half hour on a bell with outside count wheel.

The movement is stamped with the makers name:

Cailly aine

Height - 43 cm (17 inches)
Width - 33 cm (13 inches)
Depth - 13 cm (5 inches)

Circa - 1810
